According to new information, Khong To is developing an internal search platform called World Knowledge Answers, expected to integrate into Siri in this reviver of the virtual assistant, and can also be included in the Safari browser and spotlight search engine on the iPhone.
After Apple Intelligence's unimpressive launch at WWDC 2024, Apple is assessed to be struggling in its AI strategy. The AI-powered Siri is set to launch in 2026, and the new search engine is considered part of the upgrade package, due in spring next year.
Many core features of Siri are not yet out of place. Apple is said to have tested the use of Google Gemini to operate a Siri version, but has not made a final decision. CEO Tim Cook also affirmed his readiness to buy back companies to speed up the AI roadmap, in which there were rumors that Apple wanted to take over Perplexity.
Although it has always avoided search engines, this move reflects the fact that more and more users are turning to AI chatbots to look up information online.
If AI is included in Safari, Apple can compete more directly with Google (Gemini), Microsoft (Copilot), or AI companies such as Perplexity and OpenAI, which are already struggling to enter the browser market.
