Google has just released a new update to Drive that brings a major change. It’s the ability to play videos as soon as they’re uploaded on the web version. This has been one of the most requested features, completely eliminating the wait time between uploading and playing a video.
This feature is currently rolling out to a select group of users. For everyone else, please be patient until January 2, 2025 when it will be released to the general public.
The new update follows recent changes to Google Drive, including a more modern video player with a smoother interface. With this update, Google Drive web users can watch videos immediately after uploading, even while they're still being processed.
Google says the feature will be available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and personal Google accounts.
Allowing videos to play immediately upon upload not only meets one of the most common requests from users, but also clearly demonstrates Google's direction in improving the Google Drive experience. This feature will be especially useful for those who regularly work with videos, from content creation to group projects, saving time and increasing work efficiency.
