Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Doan Minh Huan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics said that humanity is witnessing a strong shift of the times.
Those rapid changes not only bring opportunities but also pose many new challenges, requiring scientific thinking to be upgraded, to comprehensively innovate both in theory, methods and approaches.
In this context, social sciences and humanities play a special role in helping people understand themselves, understand society, understand the driving forces of development and the laws of motion of life. "As we live in an era of strong change, we need more in-depth theoretical foundations to guide development, to plan policies, to ensure harmonious, sustainable and humane development..." - Permanent Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics emphasized.

According to Mr. Doan Minh Huan, for each country, the theoretical knowledge system plays an "operating factor" for all development policies. Without a solid foundation of social science and humanity, development will lack orientation, innovation will lack sustainability, integration will lack courage and social progress will lack depth and value.
At the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Ngoc Chien - Director of the National Science and Technology Development Fund (NAFostED) said that basic research in science, society and humanities has 4 major roles:
First, basic research helps clarify the nature of social and human phenomena, build a system of concepts and methods, and create a theoretical foundation for all social sciences and humanities. This is also the basis for research on applications and policies.

Second, basic research provides evidence and scientific analysis for the development of guidelines and policies. Thanks to that, it is possible to forecast trends, identify risks and support policy design on society, education, social security, digital transformation and sustainable development.
Third, this activity contributes to training a new team of scientists, improving academic capacity and promoting the formation of strong research groups and interdisciplinary research centers.
Fourth, basic research to bring Vietnamese knowledge to the world through experiential data and development experiences, while adding Vietnamese perspective to international theories and participating in solving global problems such as sustainable development, climate change or inequality.
