According to data from Appfigures, Edits reached about 702,900 downloads on iOS, 37 times the achievement that CapCut had when it was launched.
As of Thursday, Edits had a total of 7.1 million downloads (including 1.2 million on iOS and 5.9 million on Android). Meanwhile, CapCut only reached 83,500 downloads after the first 3 days, despite being limited to half of the global market.
This boost helped the Edits video editing app quickly climb to No. 1 on the US App Store chart on its first day of launch and hold the Top 3 position in the following days.
However, Edits still have a long way to go to catch up with CapCut's user scale. To date, CapCut has recorded more than 1.2 billion downloads globally since its launch in April 2020.
According to social media consultant Lia Haberman, Edits received mixed feedback from the content creation community: many people praised the application for being easy to use, ad-free, and having integrated data analysis; while others complained that Edits lacked many features such as sample template or the rich transition effect that CapCut is providing.
