Reducing uric acid is not just about changing your diet

Uric acid is a natural waste product of the body, formed when purines in food are broken down. To reduce uric acid, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Although uric acid is normally excreted in the urine, when levels in the blood are too high, it can lead to serious health problems such as gout, kidney stones, and cardiovascular disease. To control uric acid levels, dietary and lifestyle changes are important, however, there are some precautions to take when doing this.

According to research by the World Health Organization, one of the decisive factors in reducing uric acid is adjusting the diet. Experts recommend minimizing foods high in purines, such as red meat, seafood and animal organ products. Excessive consumption of purines can significantly increase uric acid levels in the blood, leading to the risk of gout. On the other hand, supplementing foods rich in vitamin C such as oranges, tangerines and kiwis can help reduce uric acid levels. Studies show that vitamin C has the ability to increase uric acid excretion through the kidneys, thereby minimizing the risk of uric acid accumulation in the body.

In addition to diet, maintaining an ideal weight is also important in controlling uric acid. Obesity is a major risk factor for increased uric acid levels in the body. Losing weight can significantly reduce uric acid levels, helping to prevent or minimize the symptoms of gout.

However, not everyone can reduce uric acid through simple diet and weight loss. In addition, some commonly used drugs to control uric acid levels can cause side effects if not used properly. Therefore, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
