Mr. and Mrs. Xuan Huyen - Doan Kieu said that they met in Hue city and since then, they have written a 41-year journey together.
At that time, Mr. Xuan Huyen impressed his wife with her strong appearance in a worker's outfit. For Ms. Doan Kieu, she likes people with big and healthy figures, while Mr. Huyen is small.
Recalling the difficult years to build a life in a foreign land, Ms. Doan Kieu shared: "Because of convenience, we decided to get married and have three children together. After that, my husband went to Ho Chi Minh City to work for two years.
I was alone in the countryside carrying my three young children, feeling too much, I took leave and brought my youngest child to the city to visit him. Witnessing my husband's difficult life and low salary, after 10 days, I decided to return to my hometown to sell my house, and go to Ho Chi Minh City to open a snakehead fish noodle shop. Luckily, the people loved me, gave me a loan of tables, chairs, pots and pans, and a kitchen to start.
More than anyone else, Mr. Xuan Huyen understands the hardships his wife has suffered in her life journey, he shared: I see the hardship of my wife when having to work with me to raise three young children in the big city. Luckily, after difficult days, all three of our children have gone to university.
Although each person has a different pace of life, Mr. Xuan Huyen and his wife still find a common point in their passion for cycling, which is also the point that helps their marriage strengthen. When their children entered college, their lives gradually stabilized, and they both began to pay more attention to their health.
They decided to choose an exercise that can last a long time, and cycling became the ideal choice. Every day, after she finishes her business at 10am, the couple cycle together - both exercising and nurturing affection through each rhythmic and loving rotation.
Sharing about her opportunity to participate in cycling, Ms. Doan Kieu said: When I was 50 years old, my back and legs started to hurt. Doctors recommend swimming or cycling because the drug only helps relieve pain temporarily. At that time, my husband bought a bicycle first and said that he would feel fine after cycling, but I didn't believe it.
I tried to step 2-3 times but felt tired and pained, so I hesitated. The next day, I tried my determination again, I trampled to Thu Thiem tunnel and returned, for a total of 30km".
Started cycling due to health problems, but later, this sport became a common passion for both husband and wife. Mr. Xuan Huyen said that they have traveled many long trips together, conquering Vietnam's routes. The coastal route from Can Gio to Mong Cai, the Ho Chi Minh route extends to the northern highlands.
The love of bicycles has become a special bond in the married life of the couple Xuan Huyen - Doan Kieu. On each journey, they not only overcome steep slopes or harsh weather together, but also share every moment of hardship and joy.
Cycling has become a close habit for over 10 years of the couple Xuan Huyen - Doan Kieu. During that time, they almost never used cars or airplanes on their trips. Every time they had the chance, the couple took their bicycles out on the road. The family, especially the children, always supports that choice. Most recently, they took a cycling trip to Hanoi - a journey of more than 4,000 km - just because of their strong passion for this sport.
