According to Heraldcorp, Blackpink singer Jennie is re-writing the promotion rules for Kpop with her debut solo album "Ruby", releasing 7 previously un available MVs (music video) for the songs in the album.
Last weekend, through YouTube, Jennie released the MV for the song "Seoul City" in the album "Ruby". With this release, the Blackpink female rapper has now released the MV for nearly half of the album's total 15 songs. Jennie is the first K-pop artist to do this with an album.
Typically, K-pop artists release 2 or 3 MVs, mainly MVs for the title track or outstanding songs in the album. The release of how many MVs is something artists carefully consider, because the cost of producing an MV and the advertising cost for the MV is quite high.
Heraldcorp emphasized, Jennies release of many MVs has set a new standard for album promotion in the Kpop industry.
Meanwhile, Seoul City is a love letter to Seoul, with Jennie participating in both lyrics and composition. This song praises the magical beauty of the city, describing Seoul as the most precious place in the female singer's heart.
The accompanying MV captures the dreamy beauty of Seoul, with Jennie immersed in the vibrant spirit of the city, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere of the song.
Before Seoul City, Jennie released the MVs Mantra, ZEN, Love Hangover, ExtraL, Like JENNIE and Handlebars.
As soon as Ruby was released, Jennie held a series of solo concerts in the US and Korea to promote this album. In particular, the two performances at the Coachella music festival on April 13 and 20 can be considered the two biggest promotional stages of the album Ruby.
While Lisa still brought her two old songs, Lalisa and Money, to the stage, Jennie spent about her entire hour at Coachella on the 13 songs in the new album.
Currently, Ruby is still recording good results among the Kpop albums released in 2025. This is the album with the highest first-week sales for a female Kpop solo artist this year, selling 661,130 copies.
The three songs Like JENNIE, Handlebars ( featuring Dua Lipa) and ExtraL ( featuring Doechii) all entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart on March 22, making her the first female K-pop solo artist to do so.
Ruby also debuted at No. 3 on the UK Official Album Chart, setting a new record for a female K-pop solo artist, surpassing Roses album rosie at No. 4.
After Coachella, the song Like JENNIE returned to the spectacular Billboard Hot 100 chart.
