On the morning of December 7, at the National Economics University, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organized a workshop on digital transformation in education and training with the theme "Higher education with technology".
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son emphasized that no industry is as strongly affected and impacted by digital transformation and artificial intelligence as the education industry, but no industry benefits from digital transformation like the education industry.
The Deputy Minister recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire education sector switched from in-person to online teaching to affirm the adaptability of the entire sector. Or the work done in applying information technology in high school graduation exam registration and university admission in the past as an example of digital transformation positively impacting education and training,...
However, the Deputy Minister noted that these are just the first steps, digital transformation is not simply about shifting teaching from in-person to online, nor is it about bringing data to the online environment.
"Digital transformation must start with innovation in thinking, management methods, and school administration, not simply moving lectures from offline to online - that is just the application of information technology. Digital transformation must be a change in thinking, methods of education management, school administration, a profound and comprehensive change" - Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said.
According to the report of the Department of Information Technology (Ministry of Education and Training), in recent times, the results of applying information technology and digital transformation of the Ministry of Education and Training in particular and the education and training sector in general have achieved many important results such as building and putting into operation the database system on higher education (HEMIS); digitizing data of about 470 higher education institutions, over 25,000 training programs, over 100,000 staff records, nearly 3 million student records; applying information technology to serve the high school graduation exam and university admissions,...
However, besides the achievements, Mr. Nguyen Son Hai - Director of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Education and Training said that there are still limitations in the digital transformation process in higher education today.
The most prominent difficulty is technical infrastructure. Data infrastructure and connections are still scattered, lacking connections, and there is no data sharing connection. Along with that, the work of ensuring information security, network security, and solutions to protect personal data has not received due attention.
In addition, shared digital resources are not yet fully developed, and the quality of many digital resources does not meet practical requirements in teaching, learning and training. Investment resources for information technology applications, digital transformation in management, administration, teaching and testing and assessment are still limited and have not been properly invested.
The explosion of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) has had a profound impact on all sectors, especially education. Vietnam is actively implementing the national digital transformation program until 2025, with a vision to 2030, identifying education and training as a priority area, with the mission of fostering and improving people's knowledge and understanding of digital technology.
At the workshop, Mr. Do Thanh Binh - Director of International Cooperation of Vinasa suggested that universities need to research training programs to help students adapt immediately to the labor market, instead of having to retrain at businesses.
