Unusual will to overcome adversity
In recent years, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen has been a familiar name to teachers and friends of Chiem Thanh Tan High School (Vi Thanh Ward, Can Tho City) and surrounding residents. He is known not only for his good studying diligence but also for his extraordinary determination to overcome adversity.
Since her heart was discovered, Huyen has had to face facial flaws, damaged right eye, birth defect in left eye, long scratched cheeks on both sides, and a mass on one side of her face. Huyen had to undergo two difficult surgeries when she was very young.
Many friends have heartlessly given Huyen bad nicknames and she often has to accept vulgar and criticistic words from people around her. To hide her inferiority complex, the mask has become an indispensable item for her every time she goes to school.
"I dream that one day I can change my appearance, not needing beauty but just having a normal face like everyone else is already a lucky thing and a happy thing. But perhaps this will never happen, because my family is in a very difficult situation, Huyen confided.
When entering grade 9, unheard words caused Huyen to lose her spirit. The female student decided to drop out of school to work, go to popular rice and beverage restaurants to get a job. However, with his facial flaws, even if he only asked for a job as a servant, he was not accepted.
This has helped me realize that only studying can change the way others perceive me. Realizing the importance, Huyen determined to return to school and make efforts and take her studies seriously.
In addition to actively studying reference books and learning from teachers and friends, Huyen also regularly reads stories about Uncle Ho, thereby helping her gain more faith and determination, constantly trying to improve her studies and life.
A shining example for the younger generation
The great result after months of trying is that Huyen has achieved the title of excellent student continuously from grade 10 to grade 12. He is commented by teachers as a thoughtful, polite, honest, modest student, always responsible and in a spirit of mutual love and support with everyone.
Not only is Huyen an excellent student, she is also an active union member, always enthusiastically participating in the activities of the class and the School Union. Through that, he accumulated more knowledge, practiced moral qualities and lifestyle.
With the determination to overcome her fate, Huyen is now confident in actively integrating with her friends, ignoring bad luck. "I am on the journey to conquer my dream of becoming a lawyer in the future, I will try my best and hope to make my family proud," Huyen expressed.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc So - Principal of Chiem Thanh Tan High School, in recent years, the school's Youth Union has organized emulation movements to study and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style. In particular, union member Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen has inspired positively and is one of the typical examples.
