Having worked in the education sector for more than 20 years, Ms. Le Thi Hang - a secondary school teacher in Thanh Hoa always feels sad every time the Tet bonus is mentioned.
At present, Ms. Hang has not received any notice from the school about the Tet bonus, but she guesses that the bonus level is not different from previous years.
"Every year on the occasion of Lunar New Year, the school will give each teacher a Tet gift basket, besides that, there is no other additional fee" - Ms. Hang sadly said.
This teacher thinks that comparing Tet bonuses with other professions is a mistake, but he cannot help but feel moved when hearing the Tet bonus numbers of other units, especially for employees with many years of experience.
"In other units and fields, the Tet bonus is usually the "13th month salary". Some places even give Tet bonuses of up to tens or hundreds of millions" - Ms. Hang shared.
Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang - a private kindergarten teacher in Ha Dong, Hanoi also feels sad when thinking about the Tet bonus.
With 5 years of experience in the profession, Ms. Hang's current salary is about 8 million/month - a modest amount compared to the spending and living expenses of a family of 4. Therefore, expecting holiday and Tet bonuses is a legitimate wish of Ms. Hang and many teachers. However, in previous years, Ms. Hang only received about 2 million VND in Tet bonuses.
From her own experience, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh - a high school teacher in Thanh Hoa province, said that currently, the Tet bonus for teachers depends on each school with factors such as: Number of students; whether costs can be saved; ... These factors will affect the welfare fund of each school. If the fund is limited, there will be no or small Tet bonus for teachers.
"I have worked here under two principals. Before, there was no Tet bonus, but since the new principal, spending in the school has been more effective and reasonable. At the end of the year, our teachers get a Tet bonus depending on the level of work completion and seniority, ranging from 2 to 5 million VND/person" - Ms. Hanh shared.
The reason why there is a difference in Tet bonuses for teachers is because currently, in current legal documents, there are no regulations on Tet bonuses, Lunar New Year bonuses or "13th month" salary for teachers. Tet bonuses are decided by the schools themselves.
On the other hand, in the spirit of Resolution 27-NQ/TW in 2018 on salary reform, the bonus fund for civil servants is expected to account for about 10% of the total annual salary fund, excluding allowances. When salary reform is implemented, this bonus will be integrated into the salary structure.
However, the bonus fund for civil servants according to Resolution 27-NQ/TW in 2018 has not yet been implemented. Therefore, Ms. Hang, Ms. Hanh and millions of teachers across the country are looking forward to the new salary policy, helping them improve their income and feel secure in their work.
