Expected to remove the condition of permanent residence, 10th grade enrollment area
On March 10, Hanoi City People's Committee announced information about the 10th grade public high school entrance exam. In which, it is expected to remove the permanent residence condition and remove the enrollment area. This is a new point that many parents and students are interested in.
Ms. Dao Xuan Huong - parent of a student at Nguyen Truong To Secondary School (O Cho Dua ward, Hanoi) - expressed her excitement about the changes in this year's enrollment plan.
According to regulations from previous years, Ms. Huong's child is only allowed to register for schools in area 3 in nguyện vọng 1 and 2. Previously, she and her child also planned to choose Le Quy Don High School.
If we remove the zoning, my child and I will have more choices. I am considering Phan Dinh Phung High School or Viet Duc High School. My child has a passion for painting, so if she can study in a more dynamic environment, it will help her develop further" - Ms. Huong shared.
According to Ms. Huong, by removing the enrollment area, parents will avoid struggling in registering aspirations after the merger of communes and wards.
Many areas after the merger have changed, no longer belonging to the enrollment area that the family desires. Children may have to register for schools further from home even if they are near the old area. According to the new enrollment plan, parents will not have to worry about this issue" - Ms. Huong said.

However, Ms. Huong also has certain worries when removing the admission area, including changing the benchmark scores of schools.
Most children rely on previous years' scores to make aspirations. This year, score fluctuations may appear, top schools may increase. Conversely, poor quality schools that do not attract students will reduce scores, creating a large gap in enrollment" - she added.
Parents worry about fiercer competition rates
Contrary to Ms. Huong's excited mood, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh - a student parent in Cau Giay ward, Hanoi - is worried after the information that the enrollment area is expected to be removed.
“My child is wishing to enter two schools, Yen Hoa High School and Cau Giay High School, to be closer to home. Leaving the area means that excellent students from everywhere, including suburban areas or other wards, can also register. The competition ratio will definitely be much fiercer because my child's opponent is now the whole city” - Ms. Thanh confided.
If there are new regulations, Ms. Thanh and her child must consider going to some schools such as Quang Trung High School or Pham Hong Thai High School to replace the 2nd wish. This means that her child will have to travel a longer distance to get to school.
Before the concerns of parents, Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Psychological Educational Sciences, Chairman of the Council of Dinh Tien Hoang High School (Hanoi) - gave advice on choosing aspirations.
When zoning is removed, it is likely that schools that already have high benchmark scores will increase scores. However, the advantage is that students have many more choices. Parents can register for nguyện vọng 1 according to their children's preferences, and nguyện vọng 2, 3 have a safe distance, avoiding cases of being too close to each other" - Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam shared.
He also advised parents not to run after the reputation of schools and put pressure on their children. Factors such as travel distance, hobbies and student development ability should be considered.
The important thing is that parents share and accompany their children. A good school is a school that helps children train their self-learning ability. For example, choosing a school near home can help children be more proactive, optimize time and ensure health" - Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam added.
