The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has announced the quota for grade 10 public high schools, with a total quota of more than 70,000 students.
In particular, high schools including: Gia Dinh (Binh Thanh District), Mac Dinh Chi (District 6), Nguyen Thuong Hien (Tan Binh District) and Nguyen Huu Huan (Thu Duc City) will stop enrolling in specialized classes. These schools only enroll regular 10th grade students and integrated classes.
Thus, in Ho Chi Minh City, there are only 3 high schools enrolling students in the specialized program, including: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and Nguoc Giay High School for the Gifted.
At the same time, all 3 schools will enroll students nationwide, instead of previous years when there were only Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Ngu Tieu High School.
This makes many students applying for admission to specialized schools worried because the level of competition may increase.
Bui Ngoc Anh, a 9th grade student in District 1, said that he had set his wish to join a Math class at both Tran Dai Nghia and Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.
"Specialty training is my long-standing dream and I am also trying my best to study to increase my chances of being admitted. I was a bit worried, afraid that the fighting rate could increase," Ngoc Anh shared.
Ngoc Anh added that he had registered to take the entrance exam to the Propaganda Department to increase his chances.
Sharing her wishes for Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Ngo Lan Phuong also expressed concern that the level of competition for tuition tickets at this year's specialized school is expected to be more intense.
" Basically, students who register for the entrance exam to a specialized school have good academic performance, excellent or higher, so if the admission rate increases, the admission score may also increase accordingly," Lan Phuong analyzed.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Bach Lan - Deputy Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that students should not panic when seeing a high competition rate because this is just reference information, reflecting the number of students registering and the level of competition.
She advised candidates to review basic knowledge firmly, improve, grasp the content of textbooks and persistently practice advanced tests, especially in professional subjects. At the same time, keep a stable mentality, ensure health, divide study time and rest appropriately, avoid creating unnecessary pressure.
Ms. Nguyen Minh Bach Lan further emphasized that if they are not admitted to a specialized school, candidates still have the opportunity to be admitted to other public high schools according to their registered wishes.
"Specialty schools are just one of the doors, not the only door for students," said Ms. Lan.
Speaking more about the fact that all three specialized schools are enrolling students nationwide, Ms. Lan said that this will create opportunities for excellent students in other localities to access a high-quality educational environment in Ho Chi Minh City, no longer limited by geographical factors.
Contributing to improving input quality, promoting healthy competition, helping schools select truly excellent students.
According to the plan, students who graduate from junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City and wish to take the entrance exam to Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted must register online on the enrollment system of the Department of Education and Training before 5:00 p.m. on May 10.
Students from other provinces will submit their applications for the centralized exam at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted before 4:00 p.m. on May 9. The exam will take place on June 6 and 7.
Candidates who register to take the entrance exam to the University of Electricity and Technology need to register to take the exam before 5:00 p.m. on May 11. The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year of the Petroleum School will take place on May 24 and 25, 2025.
