In recent years, Bac Kan province has invested a lot of resources in a series of projects to develop transport infrastructure, contributing to expanding urban space.
The Bac Kan City - Ba Be Lake road project is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the province with a total investment of more than VND 2,300 billion.
The route is 39km long, with a scale of grade III and grade IV mountainous roads, designed speed of 40-60km/h, starting construction at the end of November 2021.
The starting point of the project intersects with National Highway 3B in Song Cau ward (Bac Kan city), the end point is at Hua Ma Cave area (Quang Khe commune, Ba Be district) - where Ba Be lake is located, a special national scenic spot.

According to PV's records in April 2025, the project is now basically completed. Vehicles can move from the beginning of the route to the end of the route.
Mr. Trieu Hong Son - an officer of the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board of Bac Kan province - said that the construction volume has reached 98%, expected to be handed over in the second quarter of 2025.
Investing in and putting the route into operation will help shorten travel time from the center of the province to Ba Be lake from 4 hours to about 1 hour.
In addition to serving the travel needs of the people, the route also plays a role in opening up development space for the western area of the province, which has great potential for eco-tourism and accommodation services.
At the same time, Bac Kan also focuses on investing in urban infrastructure. In particular, the Nam Cat Lake access road project is being implemented, a new development axis of Bac Kan City.
The route is about 6km long, with a total investment of 226 billion VND, divided into 3 sections, including urban road standards and grade IV roads.
The project started in December 2023, with the Bac Kan City Project Management and Investment Board as the investor, using central and local budgets.
After nearly 2 years of implementation, the shape of the road project to Nam Cat Lake has gradually emerged. Currently, investors are focusing on building roadbeds, leveling, compacting, constructing drainage ditches and auxiliary items.

Mr. Tran Cong Hoa - Director of the Department of Finance - said that the road project to Nam Cat Lake will be completed in 2025.
During the project implementation, despite difficulties in site clearance, the overall progress was still guaranteed according to plan.
Not only focusing on inner-city transport infrastructure, Bac Kan also promotes inter-regional connectivity, to expand development space outside the city.
Of which, the Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway project has a total investment of more than VND 5,750 billion from the state budget, a major and key traffic project of the province.
The route is nearly 29km long, including 28.4km of expressway and 0.4km of section connecting to National Highway 3B - Ba Be Lake, expected to be basically completed in 2026.
This route will directly connect with the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi axis, creating a smooth traffic corridor, shortening travel time, creating a boost for industrial, tourism, commercial development and improving the quality of life for people.
