Can Tho City People's Committee has just sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Industry and Trade requesting support for rice exporting enterprises in the area to participate in implementing rice export contracts to the Senegalese market.
According to the content of the document, within the framework of the official visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Senegalese from July 22 to 24, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade joined the working delegation and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Senegalese. According to the agreement, the Vietnamese side agreed to promote the export of 100,000 tons of rice per year to Senegal, depending on production conditions, market conditions and international prices at the time of trading.
Can Tho City People's Committee finds that rice export businesses in the area have enough capacity to implement the content of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries. Therefore, the City People's Committee requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to consider, support and create favorable conditions for the City's enterprises to participate in implementing rice export contracts to Senegal.
Can Tho City People's Committee is committed to accompanying businesses, ensuring full compliance with the regulations of the host country, and at the same time organizing timely rice handover to Senegalese partners, contributing to promoting international trade and expanding Vietnam's rice export market.
According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the total annual rice output is 5.11 million tons, the rate of high-quality rice varieties is over 95%. In the first 8 months of 2025, more than 1.2 million tons of rice were exported, bringing in nearly 600 million USD. Can Tho is also a ST25 rice growing locality (formerly Soc Trang province) for rice that was ranked "World's Best Rice" in international competitions.
Implementing the Sustainable Development Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality and emitting rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030, Can Tho has 170,000 hectares participating. In 2025, it will be 104,500 hectares with 191 cooperatives and cooperative groups participating.
