Energy conversion is not only an international commitment but also an opportunity for Vietnam to build a low-carbon economy, competing in the global supply chain.
In 2025, Vietnam sets a GDP growth target of over 8%, creating momentum for double-digit growth in the 2026-2031 period. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, electricity demand will increase by more than 12% this year, putting great pressure on the national power system. To meet the needs sustainably, Vietnam needs to quickly switch to renewable energy sources such as solar power, wind power and biomass.
In April 2025, the Government approved the adjusted Power Plan VIII, aiming to increase the share of renewable energy (excluding hydropower) to 28-36% by 2030 and 74-75% by 2050. The planning shows the determination to develop green energy, build a flexible power system, and integrate advanced technology to optimize efficiency.
However, the journey to green energy conversion still faces many challenges, from dependence on coal power, financial limitations to the need for synchronous infrastructure development. To be successful, Vietnam needs to reform institutions, master technology, attract private and international investment, and improve supervision and management capacity.
The workshop "En energy conversion solutions towards Net Zero" organized by Lao Dong Newspaper in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade will take place at 1:30 p.m. on May 29, 2025 at Lao Dong Newspaper Headquarters, Hanoi. With the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, energy experts and pioneering enterprises, the workshop will discuss financial, technological and policy solutions to realize the Adjusted Power Plan VIII. This is an opportunity for businesses to seek investment opportunities, managers to build effective policies and the community to join hands for a sustainable future.
The workshop is part of a series of events "Green Transformation Day 2025" organized by Lao Dong Newspaper, aiming to remove barriers and promote the green transformation process in Vietnam.
