At the regular November meeting of the Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee (December 4), the total import-export turnover through the area was reported to have increased by 38% over the same period last year, and the total state budget revenue also increased by 24.9%.
Notably, the number of newly established enterprises across the province also increased, contributing to promoting economic development and creating more jobs for local workers.
Import and export goods in Cao Bang mainly go through three border gates: Ta Lung, Tra Linh and Soc Giang. Of which, Ta Lung border gate stands out with an average of dozens of vehicles passing through customs every day, bringing excitement to the border area.
On December 6, speaking with reporters, Mr. Hoang Xuan - a driver from Vinh Long - shared: "My car carries agricultural products from the South, customs clearance procedures are still stable now. After delivering the goods, I wait for the owner to notify me and then turn around."
According to the Ta Lung Border Gate Management Office, from October 16 to November 15, the total import and export turnover of goods through the border gate reached more than 27 million USD, bringing the cumulative total in 2024 to more than 450 million USD. This figure increased significantly compared to the same period in 2023, showing good recovery and growth.
Major exports at the border gate include peeled timber, agricultural products such as jackfruit, sweet potatoes, durian, and nickel concentrate. On the other hand, popular imports include groceries, farm machinery, cars, coke, fabrics, and beer.
The hustle and bustle at the border gate not only brings economic benefits but also improves the lives of local people. Ms. B.T.K - the owner of a restaurant at the border gate area - happily said: "Border trade is better, more customers come to eat and drink, people going back and forth between the two countries are busier than before."
However, there are still some difficulties as many secondary border gates and openings in the area have not been able to resume operations since the COVID-19 pandemic appeared, causing certain obstacles to trade.
To overcome the shortcomings, the Cao Bang Economic Zone Management Board and the Quang Hoa District government coordinated to organize many talks with representatives of the Long Chau District People's Government (Guangxi, China). The discussion focused on solutions to reopen the freight transport route via Ta Lung II Road Bridge and upgrade the Ta Lung - Thuy Khau border gate to an international border gate.
The two sides also seek ways to reduce customs clearance costs and promote the transportation of goods such as raw sugarcane, creating favorable conditions for businesses and people.
The strong growth of import and export turnover in Cao Bang not only contributes to local economic development but also brings great cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and China.
