Accelerating agriculture, creating momentum for GRDP breakthrough
In 2025, Vinh Long aims to reach VND 103,076 billion in the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production, contributing nearly 3.6% of GRDP in Region I and creating momentum for the whole province to surpass the 8% mark.
According to the built growth scenario, from now until the end of the year, the whole industry needs to create an additional VND 58,119 billion in production value. Of which, the agricultural sector alone must increase by 37,176 billion VND, the aquaculture sector increases by 20,758 billion VND and the forestry sector increases by 185 billion VND.
Sharing about the implementation roadmap, Mr. Lam Van Tan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DONRE) of Vinh Long province - said that to contribute to bringing the province's GRDP to over 8%, agriculture needs to increase by 3.11% in the third quarter and 3.69% in the fourth quarter. The industry will strongly direct, replicate effective models, apply technology to improve productivity and product quality.

Along with that, the province will focus on synchronously mobilizing resources from policies, businesses to people to ensure the production, processing and consumption of agricultural products go smoothly.
"The agricultural growth target is also associated with the strategy of raising the average income per capita of the whole province to 84.3 million VND/year, contributing to promoting sustainable socio-economic development and improving the lives of rural people," Mr. Tan added.
Green restructuring
The Vinh Long agricultural sector is restructuring in the direction of green, organic, and circular. The whole province maintains more than 560,000 cows, nearly 900,000 pigs, 25.6 million poultry; expected to increase by 163,000 tons of fresh meat and 230 million eggs. Vaccination and seed and feed management are tightened.
Regarding seafood, the goal is to increase output by 531,900 tons, of which 400,000 tons are for farming and 131,900 tons are for exploitation. The specialized sector focuses on technical support, environmental monitoring, disease prevention.

According to Mr. Lam Van Tan - Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the locality is expanding the area of high-quality rice, reducing emissions, and combining rotation of crops on rice fields to increase production value.
"For perennial crops, the province encourages the use of quality varieties, sustainable farming, input control to reduce costs and ensure product safety," Mr. Tan added.
With clear orientation and specific solutions, Vinh Long expects agriculture to make an important contribution to economic growth, towards a green, modern and sustainable development model.
