Can Tho - Creatively turning agricultural products into Tet display items, many farmers are excited when they are favored by consumers, supply cannot meet demand.

Creative agricultural products for Tet

This year, farmers and gardeners in districts in Can Tho City have planted about 1 million pots of flowers and ornamental plants of all kinds to supply for the 2025 Lunar New Year. The types of flowers and ornamental plants that farmers and gardeners focus on producing are marigolds, chrysanthemums, lisianthus, bougainvillea, apricot blossoms, etc. In particular, agricultural products are also creatively turned into Tet plants by farmers and gardeners.

In addition to marigolds, chrysanthemums, and lisianthus flowers... this Tet, Mr. Hao (Thot Not District, Can Tho City) also grows some agricultural products such as corn, cabbage, chili,... in pots to serve people's Tet decoration needs.

“Many people find cabbage beautiful because the leaves bloom like roses. In addition, after being steamed, people can use the cabbage for cooking, which is very convenient. Corn has a good meaning of being “firm as corn”, steaming it on Tet holiday will make everything go smoothly all year round,” said this farmer.

Also growing agricultural products in pots to supply the market, Mr. Cop (Thot Not district, Can Tho city) shared that the consumer trend of displaying Tet products is not only beautiful and meaningful, but also diversity is of great concern.

“In recent years, consumers have prioritized beautiful, multi-purpose plants to buy for Tet, so we have also grasped that trend and put agricultural products in pots. For urban households without land for cultivation, they will buy agricultural products in pots to both display for Tet and fertilize and use as food later,” Mr. Cop shared.

Supply cannot meet demand

Compared to previous years, Mr. Hao assessed that the consumption of agricultural products has increased sharply, especially cabbage. With 100 baskets of corn and 400 baskets of cabbage grown to sell for Tet, this farmer was quite surprised when he sold out almost all of them after only a few days of displaying them. The economic value of agricultural products is quite good, helping to increase profits significantly.

According to this farmer, corn, cabbage... when put into pots must be "pampered" very carefully so that the plants grow evenly and beautifully. Although it is hard, the selling price is twice as high as traditional production: "If normal cabbage only fluctuates from 7,000 - 10,000 VND/kg, when put into pots, I sell it for 50,000 VND/pair, other agricultural products are similar. People support a lot and the price is high, everyone in my family is happy because this Tet is more prosperous and full."

Sharing the same joy, Mr. Cop said that he was quite surprised that this year's agricultural products could not meet demand. Many people who came later did not have enough products to buy and had to look elsewhere. Accordingly, he had to quickly grow a new batch to sell in time for people to display for Tet.

“It’s not even the peak of Tet yet, but almost all of the agricultural baskets have been sold out. The selling price is good, so our profits have also increased. Next year, I will increase the number of agricultural baskets so that everyone can buy them for Tet, and I myself will also increase my income, making Tet more enjoyable,” Mr. Cop shared.
