Affirming the pioneering role at the national policy forum
With the theme "From policy to action", the National Forum on Environment and Climate 2026 has just been organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in coordination with the People's Committee of Nghe An province.
This is a national policy dialogue space, aimed at exchanging and proposing practical solutions for environmental protection and climate change response in the new development stage of the country.
At the forum, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang - Deputy Director of the Climate Change Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) - said that Vietnam's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 is being strongly realized, through an increasingly complete legal corridor as well as specific projects from central to local levels. In addition to the involvement of management agencies and localities, many businesses have proactively inventoried, developed plans and implemented measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Vinamilk is one of the enterprises mentioned in pioneering sustainable development in Vietnam. The enterprise has built goals towards Net Zero by 2050 and participated in the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
Currently, Vinamilk's Net Zero goal has been announced on SBTi's website. Participating in this initiative helps businesses build emission reduction goals and action orientations based on science, in accordance with international standards," shared Mr. Le Hoang Minh - Managing Director of Production cum Head of Net Zero project of Vinamilk.

Step by step implementing this goal, Vinamilk has had the first units to achieve carbon neutrality according to international standard ISO 14068-1 (emission range 1 and 2). In which, the first factory and farm to achieve carbon neutrality is located right in Nghe An - where this year's national forum on environment and climate takes place.
From inventory to reduction: Data-based approach

With the viewpoint "if you can't measure it, you can't manage it", Vinamilk has been conducting systematic greenhouse gas inventory for many years. The enterprise's factory and farm system is conducting inventory, helping to identify key emission points, thereby designing substantive reduction solutions instead of stopping at qualitative commitments.
Proactive compliance and going one step ahead helps Vinamilk not only reduce pressure when the quota and carbon trading mechanism comes into operation, but also take advantage of the opportunity to optimize costs right during the transition process," Mr. Minh shared.

Specifically, Mr. Minh said that emission reduction actions often come with energy or raw material saving, thereby reducing production costs. For example, 4 automated smart warehouses help reduce emissions by nearly 1,900 tons of CO2/year while saving 70% of energy compared to diesel engines and traditional warehouse management methods; Applying solar energy to provide farm sanitation hot water both contributes to avoiding emissions of about 278 tons of CO2e (CO2 conversion)/year and reduces electricity use costs;... not only helping businesses reduce emissions by about 135 tons of CO2e but also limiting the cost of using 48 tons of virgin plastic.
“All solutions, which may seem small, but all bring great benefits in reducing emissions as well as reducing production costs. Thereby, creating motivation to encourage the business community to accompany the Government in implementing the Net Zero goal by 2050,” Mr. Minh concluded.
