Nguyen Anh Minh's father - Mr. Nguyen Dang Son is the one who always follows his son closely in every tournament. Many observant people will see that Mr. Son always cheers for his son wholeheartedly and even when Anh Minh does not have the most effective shots or scores, he has never received any criticism.
Coach Nguyen Thai Duong of the Vietnam Golf Team is considered one of the people who inspired Anh Minh to practice, play and compete in golf. He shared: "Anh Minh is lucky to have his father as the person who supports and encourages him the most to come to the sport. Golf is a very special sport, requiring patience and if it were not for his father Dang Son, Anh Minh might not have been as successful as he is now." Remember last year when attending the seminar called "Improving the quality of Vietnamese golf training", Mr. Nguyen Dang Son shared a lot about the process of bringing his son to golf.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Son shared that 2015 was the time when Nguyen Anh Minh first got acquainted with golf, started holding a club to play. “When I took my son to practice golf, his family did not support it because of many opposing opinions and above all, many people said that because the family did not have a sports tradition, it would be difficult for Anh Minh to succeed. However, with my determination, my son and I persistently went to practice, then registered him to participate in tournaments to get acquainted,” Mr. Dang Son said.
With golf, just to practice playing and hitting, you don't have to hold a club and stand in front of the ball to become proficient. Understanding the need for basic techniques and steady steps from the beginning, Mr. Son determined to invest in hiring a coach for Anh Minh. Telling about Anh Minh's own training and competition process would take a lot of time and a single article would not be enough, but for this young man, what golf has brought him is to build a very calm personality, be humble and willing to learn to succeed.
Always strive for the flag and colors
When this article was published, Nguyen Anh Minh had just finished the professional training program between the Vietnam Team and the Singapore Team in Ho Chi Minh City. Anh Minh shared: "Every time I participate in the programs of the Vietnam Golf Team, I always feel proud and determined. I have participated in many tournaments at all levels and I acknowledge all the world golfers who have competed for their homeland with all their heart." If talking about achievements in domestic tournaments, Anh Minh has a complete professional collection when he has won the National Championship and National Youth Championship.
In his mark with the Vietnam Golf Team, Nguyen Anh Minh's most recent international result was winning the Men's Team Championship with teammates Le Khanh Hung and Ho Anh Huy at the Asia-Pacific Tournament (Nomura Cup 2024) at home in Hai Phong last October. In that tournament, Anh Minh also excelled as the male golfer with the best score, winning the individual championship cup. In January 2025, Anh Minh will be honored to be a Vietnamese golfer named in the Asia-Pacific Men's Golf Team to compete in the Bonallack Trophy 2025.
However, talking about his professional journey, Anh Minh said that the competition at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia last year was the most memorable for him. Many people asked Anh Minh after that tournament if he was sad that he did not win the individual Gold Medal. The golfer frankly shared that he had never felt sad because his teammate Le Khanh Hung played well and won the individual Gold Medal at the 32nd SEA Games, which was completely deserved.
SEA Games 31 was the first time in his career that Nguyen Anh Minh was able to join the Vietnam Golf Team to participate in a Southeast Asian Games. Competing on Vietnam's home ground at that time, all fans were waiting for the golfers (including Nguyen Anh Minh) to be able to make a success, but unfortunately we missed the opportunity to have a medal. After a year, Anh Minh has become more mature.
Most notably, Nguyen Anh Minh and his teammates did not face much pressure when competing at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. The psychological comfort helped the Vietnamese men's golf team play well and Nguyen Anh Minh also won a Bronze Medal in the individual event.
This golfer and his teammates Khanh Hung and Doan Uy won the Silver Medal for the team. Vietnamese Golf marked a historic and most successful competition in all SEA Games to date with the results of one Gold Medal, one Silver Medal, and one Bronze Medal.
“Our victory is the determination of everyone, but above all, it is the preparation from the coaching staff to compete and get the best results,” Nguyen Anh Minh said in Cambodia at that time.
Try to study well, play golf well
Nguyen Anh Minh has never hidden his goals. The 17-year-old Vietnamese golfer specifically affirmed that he started getting acquainted with golf at the age of 7. By the age of 9, his understanding of golf had been better formed since then, and he himself loved this sport. "The goal my family and I set for ourselves is to win the opportunity to go to university in the US and compete in tournaments at universities in the US to further develop our career," Anh Minh revealed.
That goal has become a reality for Nguyen Anh Minh. Vietnam's number one male golfer has received a full scholarship for four years at Oregon State University in the US. In 2025, Anh Minh will go to the US to study, following his dream.
The official website of Oregon State University (USA) has an announcement in English with the content: "Nguyen Anh Minh is a member of the International Team participating in the Junior Presidents Cup 2024 and is ranked 60th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The golfer reached the quarterfinals of the US Juniors 2024, ranked 7th in the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in 2023. Anh Minh ranked 19th in the Asia Pacific Amateur 2024. Anh Minh won the individual championship of the Asia Pacific Team Championship (Nomura Cup 2024) and together with Vietnamese golf won the first team victory in history in the above tournament". The golf team of Oregon State University (USA) also confirmed that there will be a new member Nguyen Anh Minh in the 2025 - 2026 season.
When asked how he felt about himself, Anh Minh smiled and humbly said that he was not a special person, but to achieve results, hard work was always required. That is why, since his father directed him towards a golf career, Anh Minh has practiced diligently and never slacked off. Anh Minh himself determined that studying culture was necessary, never neglecting and completing his studies so that when he came to America, his dream would be more complete.
“After a 4-year learning journey, my family and I will definitely look back to see how we have developed, from there I will have the next steps for golf,” Nguyen Anh Minh said about the future.
