Overcoming pressure to succeed
Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Anh - President of the 789 Corporation Union (Ministry of National Defence) has only been President of the Union for over a year, so becoming a contestant in the Army-level Excellent Grassroots Union President Competition - a competition under the direct direction of the Directorate of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army - is a pressure for her.
Ms. Anh shared: "The contest has many long-time grassroots union officials, and I am the representative of the General Department of Advice, so there is some pressure." Before the contest, Ms. Anh spent a lot of time reviewing the knowledge and skills in union activities that she already had and had learned. The 789 General Company Union has 4 grassroots unions with over 600 union members.
Because it is a construction company, union members and workers are distributed in many locations. Therefore, union activities must always be innovated based on the characteristics of the army to effectively perform the role of caring for union members and workers. During the process of operation, Ms. Anh always believes that union officials at the grassroots level must build trust with workers through care, closeness, and understanding of their thoughts and aspirations. Any problems of workers need to be resolved immediately at the grassroots level.
With practical experience in handling real situations and with skills and knowledge that have been seriously studied and learned, Ms. Ngoc Anh is one of 10 excellent candidates to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Directorate of Politics (the contest has 38 candidates) and the General Advice Ministry's Trade Union is one of 10 excellent units to receive the Flag of the Directorate of Politics.
As the Chairwoman of the Hanoi Construction Trade Union - an industry with many specialized workers working in a difficult and arduous environment, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh is always concerned and looking for ways to organize activities based on the needs of workers. One of them is that the Trade Union has inaugurated a Mobile Housing project for urban environmental workers so that workers have more accommodation when changing shifts.
Since its inception, the mobile home has contributed to improving the working conditions of workers during working days under harsh weather conditions such as hot sun or heavy rain and strong winds. The mobile home is also a place where workers can temporarily stay and rest after hard working hours. Also from the thoughts of caring for workers, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh has many initiatives, typically innovating and improving the quality of activities to care for the lives of union members and workers, focusing on grassroots trade unions in the spirit of Resolution No. 02-NQ/TW dated June 12, 2021 of the Politburo (term XIII) on innovation of organization and operation of Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation.
With this initiative, union members and workers are taken care of by the industry union during holidays and Tet with a total amount of nearly 2 billion VND; workers enjoy a 10-15% discount when purchasing products of PVI Insurance Company Dong Do Branch; enjoy a 30% discount when using room and meeting room services at Quang Ba Trade Union Hotel; 34 union members and workers in difficult circumstances are supported with loan applications with a loan amount of more than 1 billion VND...
Taking on the position of Chairwoman of the Hanoi Construction Trade Union since 2018, in 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh was honored to receive the 4th Nguyen Van Linh Award - a noble award of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, considered and awarded to trade union officials at all levels with outstanding achievements, initiatives and creativity in trade union activities, contributing to building the Trade Union organization and building a strong working class.
Never stop learning no matter what your starting point is.
In fact, female union officials, especially at the grassroots level, and female workers who have achieved excellent results always know how to scientifically arrange between union "work" and housework. Therefore, no matter how busy they are, they still spend time improving themselves in terms of knowledge, health, and appearance...
The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thom, GSK Vietnam Co., Ltd. - Phu Nghia Industrial Park is one of the typical families recognized by the Capital Trade Union. Ms. Thom's two children, one in grade 6 and one in grade 4, both achieved the title of Excellent Student. Sharing the secret of always completing all tasks at the company well while still taking care of housework, Ms. Thom said that her achievements were thanks to the sympathy and sharing from both families. Her family is truly a strong spiritual support for her.
Ms. Thom said that in the company, she works in the unit that produces car seats and motorbike saddles. The workload is quite large, but she always tries to arrange her work reasonably and scientifically to be able to balance work and family care. Her efforts are always cared for, supported and shared by her family and husband. Although working in the army, with strict working hours, when at home, her husband always spends time with his wife to take care of the family, taking care of the children from eating, sleeping to studying, so she is very assured.
From a worker at Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd., after 20 years of continuous learning, exploration and creativity, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Ha has now become a department head with many initiatives and creativity, bringing tens of billions of dong in benefits to the company. This October, she was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for the title "Initiatives and Creativity among Workers, Civil Servants and Laborers of the Capital" in 2024 by the Hanoi City Labor Federation.
Ngoc Ha's efforts have proven that any woman can rise up and assert herself regardless of her starting point. In 2004, after leaving high school, Ha started working at Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd. in the initial position of an accounting support worker. With limited professional knowledge, no English communication skills, and no office computer skills, she could not help but feel worried and self-conscious; then she was helped by her senior colleagues and especially with her own determination, Ha was determined to improve her knowledge by all means, such as learning from people around her, learning through books, the Internet...
Over time, Ms. Ha not only mastered her expertise, but after 2 years of working at the company, Ms. Ha participated in the first English speaking contest organized by the company in 2005 and was one of the 3 winners. She was also honored to be sent by the company to exchange at Canon Malaysia Company. Since then, she has always improved her knowledge and confidently communicated with Japanese experts and leaders.
What Ms. Ha has achieved today is how a modern woman does not back down in the face of difficulties. The company's starting time is 8am, but she woke up early, leaving home at 5am to get to the company by public bus at 7am. One hour before officially starting work, she took the opportunity to learn how to use a computer and attend an additional English course offered by the company. The company has a policy that students who meet the required score will not have to pay tuition, otherwise they will have to pay tuition, so she studied hard to save on tuition...
Not stopping at what has been achieved, in the coming time, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Ha and her colleagues will continue to participate in assigned projects, research and add their own innovations to the work to ensure quality, reduce costs, reduce processing time to bring the most benefit to the company.
