In June 1954, Tan Thanh Coal mine (former name of Khanh Hoa coal mine during the resistance war against France) launched the emulation campaign "Tons of coal for peace, for the light of the capital" to welcome Uncle Ho and the Government back to Hanoi. Every place is covered with flower flags and slogan as if celebrating, mine workers do not mention the rain or shine, do not consider time, and are fascinated by coal production because the goal of keeping the light of the capital never goes out. After more than a month, 1,320 tons of coal have been exploited, in time to be transferred to Yen Phu Power Plant, Hanoi.
In the 3 years of economic recovery in the Hon Gai - Cam Pha coal area (1955 - 1957) with the goal of quickly restoring production to put the responsibility of mastering first in production as well as social order, Hon Gai Coal State-owned Enterprise has initiated a new emulation movement. In the 3 years of 1955-570, the Coal industry has selected many emulation fighters, 2,601 advanced individuals, and 108 advanced families. Emulation fighter Dang Thi Nhan was honored and launched a movement for the entire industry to study.
At the Coc Sau construction site, each person, each team, each floor competed to surpass each stage of a coal truck in one shift. The quota of 60 flights has been increased to 65 and then to 75 with the highest being 120 flights/cases. From Coc Sau, the emulation movement has spread to Deo Nai and Ha Tu construction sites. From 1966 to 1975, the Coal industry entered a period of both production and fighting the sabotage war of the US Air Force. The whole industry has launched a production and combat movement in all situations, with the slogan "Will be a hammer, be a gunman", "3, ready", "3, ready". Mao Khe mine, Vang Danh mine launched the " express dating" movement. Khanh Hoa mine organized a technical exercise called "For the cause of fighting against the US to save the country, each person works at two" and assigned it to the youth to manage.
On November 15, 1968, Uncle Ho met with a delegation of railway workers in the Coal industry at the Presidential Palace. This has led to a period of political activity that has both deeply reviewed the shortcomings and proposed measures to produce more coal and bring management back to order.
From 1986 to 1995 was the period of innovating the management mechanism from the grassroots to the market mechanism. The Coal industry has taken many difficult steps, finding a way to adapt to the new mechanism. Units in the industry have begun to escape the crisis caused by mechanism conversion. Each company has proactively organized its own emulation movement. Many forms of movement have been replaced to suit the production and business conditions of each unit. The titles of "Good Worker", "Good Management", "Good Business"... were conferred to replace the old titles. The reward work has been innovated a lot, the material benefits have strongly stimulated everyone's creativity.
To exploit a ton of raw coal in the mine is a difficult process for many workers. Currently, Nui Beo Coal Joint Stock Company and companies in the National Coal - Mineral Industries Group are investing in modern equipment and machinery to provide maximum support to workers. The company has also changed production from open-pit mining to underground mining. The mine roads are expanded, with full electric lights, cool air, combined with tunnel transport equipment to help miners go down to 500m deep points under the sea, exploiting them more easily and conveniently, without having to spend much effort, the miners only need a few people to take on the task in each specific department to be able to control and operate an entire underground coal mining line, producing thousands of tons of coal in a single shift. In particular, the SGB420 scraper replaces the B800 conveyor belt to operate coal through the furnace crossing along the market transportation lane. It has created favorable conditions for workers in the process of transporting coal, materials and equipment for production. Thanks to investment in new machinery and equipment, application of advanced technology as well as continuous application of technical innovation initiatives in production practice, the average income of workers is increasingly high and stable, the economy is stable, and happiness in labor. But more importantly, this industry is becoming more and more attractive to everyone and has also "guaranteed" many people. Therefore, in Quang Ninh, it is not uncommon for families of many generations to be attached to coal, to the mining profession in pride and respect.
To recognize the outstanding achievements in the emulation movement for production labor and the work of coal workers, the Ministry of Industry and the Vietnam Coal Trade Union have decided to award the title of "Great Miner" and the commemorative medal "For the development of Vietnam's industry" for the First and Second grades to more than thirty thousand coal workers.
During the years of the whole industry's renovation, many collectives and cadres and workers were awarded the title of Labor Hero of the renovation period such as Dang Van Binh, Le Dinh Truong...
In particular, coal workers and officials have been awarded the most noble award by the State, the Gold Star Medal. This award marks the outstanding efforts of Vietnamese miners to implement President Ho Chi Minh's call for the entire people to compete for patriotism.
This year, the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam National United Front - National Great Unity Day will be celebrated. It is also an occasion for miners to celebrate the 89th anniversary of the Mining Workers' Traditional Day (November 12, 193 12-November 2025) and Uncle Ho's Day to meet a delegation of workers and civil servants in the coal industry (November 15, 1968 - November 15, 2025). The miners are proud to have steadfastly pioneered the patriotic emulation movement.
