Old age is a time to rest, to relax, to separate from the bustling rhythm of life. That is true, but that does not mean sitting and waiting for the day to pass. In countries such as Spain, England or Japan, walking football is being introduced as a testament to the age of majority still having an environment, having its own community space. They still need feelings. Slow, but happy.
Walking football is not a regret for young people. That is how they continue to maintain their competitive spirit, but follow a different beat: No need to run, no need to compete, just need to take steady steps, an accurate pass and a lot of smiles on their wrinkled faces. They do not compete with anyone other than themselves, after years of struggling to chase work, achievements, responsibilities and even daily worries.
Of course, walking football is not just a game, but a true movement - both good for the heart and balance, and helps people feel that they still belong to a community.
Perhaps, most only recognize the true meaning of "enjoying" when old age comes. So can - and should - young people play football on the wing? That's fine. So let's go. Knowing that young people love speed and strength, but learning to "walk" in their own lives is also necessary. Slow is not a means of falling behind, but to feel more clearly where you are going, for what it is and what it is really like to live or just follow the crowd.
Even when you stop a little, you see things you have never seen before, realizing many precious things are missed just because each day has passed so quickly. Who knows, in the gap, we find inspiration, more energy, and motivation to move forward.
The elderly will know what to keep. Children do not mean they must always be in a hurry. When we walk slowly without stopping, live lightly without giving up, it is enjoyment - for old age is a reward, for youth is a journey of awareness.
Because slowing down at the right time, sometimes, is a way to go further.
