On November 18, An Giang Provincial Police informed about a group of people in Tan Lap Commune, Tinh Bien Town using petrol bombs and excavators to attack the authorities participating in the implementation of the decision to enforce the confiscation to serve the road construction project.
The attackers were members of the family of Le Thi Ngoc Nhan and her husband Le Van Dien, along with several others. The police arrested eight protesters.
The attack left five police officers injured. In addition, the attackers also damaged many vehicles and machines of the construction unit.
The project passes through Tan Lap commune (Tinh Bien town, An Giang), part of the "Inter-provincial road upgrade project" connecting the Long Xuyen Quadrangle, Chau Phu district, An Giang province with Hon Dat district, Kien Giang province, called DT.945 road.
Authorities forcibly reclaim land for road construction, not for businesses to do projects. Road construction is to serve people's travel and develop the local economy.
All households in the DT.945 project area have carried out compensation and handed over land to serve the project implementation. However, the households of Le Thi Ngoc Nhan and Le Van Dien resisted, and resisted with violence, using petrol bombs and weapons.
Other households agreed with the State's compensation and support policies and supported the locality in implementing the project. More importantly, people realized that road construction would develop the economy, facilitate transportation, and benefit the common good.
Because of this awareness, even though there are some disadvantages, the households still agree and create conditions for the government to complete the compensation and site clearance work.
In many places, people have also voluntarily donated land to expand roads or implement traffic infrastructure projects. Most typically, to serve the construction of the North-South Expressway, 2 households in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province agreed to donate 576 square meters of land without asking for compensation. In Quynh Phu district, Thai Binh province, nearly 5,000 households donated more than 40 hectares of residential and agricultural land, worth more than 500 billion VND, to build roads.
Returning to the case of the group of people attacking the police in An Giang, it is a very valuable lesson for everyone. First of all, we must agree on actions for the common good, second, we should not commit any acts that violate the law.
