Vegetables can produce prebiotic and probiotic nutrients during fermentation, so fermented foods may have positive effects on metabolism.
Excessive consumption of kimchi is not recommended, but moderate consumption is a healthy way to promote a healthy metabolism and microbiome. People who regularly eat fermented vegetables may have a lower risk of obesity.
Gut health plays an important role in burning fat and reducing inflammation, so include the right fermented foods in your diet, says Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, nutritionist, Apollo Hospitals.
Cabbage Kimchi
For men, those who ate a little cabbage kimchi had a 10% lower overall obesity rate and a 10% lower abdominal obesity rate than men who did not eat cabbage kimchi every day.
For women, eating moderate amounts of kimchi cabbage every day was associated with an 8% reduction in obesity.
Radish Kimchi
Men who ate 25 grams of radish kimchi per day and 11 grams per day for women reduced their risk of belly fat by 8% and 11%, respectively.
However, overeating can be harmful to your health due to the high sodium content found in kimchi.
