Step 1:
Exercise to help eliminate excess fluid. Walk, cycle, or work out on an elliptical machine. Exercise not only improves circulation, but also increases sweating, which promotes the release of fluid through the skin.
If bloating occurs right after a meal, you can go for a walk, avoiding strenuous exercise, as it can cause cramps on a full stomach.
Step 2:
Drink a glass of water mixed with fresh lemon juice to reduce bloating. Drinking plenty of water will help your body stay hydrated, retain less water, and help your kidneys eliminate excess water.
Step 3:
Eat foods rich in potassium. Potassium helps regulate fluids – this is helpful when the body retains too much water. Consuming too much sodium and too little potassium increases the risk of heart disease and death.
Foods high in potassium but low in sodium include white beans, green leafy vegetables, plain yogurt, salmon, broccoli, cantaloupe, citrus fruits, bananas, and raspberries.
Step 4:
Avoid foods high in sugar, white flour, and sodium. These tend to cause water retention, which can hinder your weight loss.
