On the evening of April 8, Mr. Doan Tan Buu - Director of the Department of Health of Dong Thap province - informed Lao Dong that the Cao Lanh City Medical Center had reported the preliminary investigation results of the suspected food poisoning case that occurred at Dong Thap University.
Accordingly, on April 6, about 3,500 people including students and teachers attended the STEM Festival, including lunch with dishes: white rice, pork soup with pork belly, duck egg pork, fried chicken and lemongrass salt, provided by T.R facility (Ward 1, Cao Lanh city) and bottled water. The organizers also serve drinks including canned fresh milk and free milk tea.

At 1:30 p.m. the same day, some event participants began to have symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea... By 4 p.m., a total of 33 people had symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea... All were transferred to Dong Thap General Hospital for health monitoring.
By 8:30 p.m., 4 people were allowed to return home and 29 people were hospitalized for treatment. At around 10pm, the health of the 29 people hospitalized was stable and had no serious progress. Initial diagnosis of digestive infections/monitoring food poisoning.
At 10:00 on April 7, the health of the 29 people hospitalized was stable and proceeded well. For the 4 people with mild symptoms, their health is being monitored at home.
It is known that the Dong Thap Department of Health also held a meeting with the Office of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee; representatives of departments, branches, representatives of Dong Thap University, Dong Thap General Hospital, Center for Disease Control, Cao Lanh City Medical Center and a number of related units.
Director of Dong Thap Department of Health Doan Tan Buu said that as soon as the information was received, the health sector coordinated and directed units to conduct an investigation, collect samples for testing, and check compliance with food safety regulations of the T.R facility; properly implement the handling process of the suspected food poisoning case.
The Department also requested Dong Thap General Hospital and hospitals located in Cao Lanh City to ensure emergency care, treatment and closely monitor the health status of hospitalized cases suspected of food poisoning.
This is a suspected food poisoning case with no serious cases, all cases were treated well, no serious consequences; all relevant units have promptly, actively, and coordinated to handle it well. The Department of Health continues to request the Center for Disease Control, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene and the Department of Health's Department of Medical Affairs to guide and strengthen knowledge on food safety and hygiene for school health workers.
