Gia Lai - The Golden Heart Fund supports Tuy Phuoc, Tuy Phuoc Tay and Quy Nhon Bac, each with 50 million VND, joining hands to help people recover from natural disasters.

Continuing volunteer activities, joining hands with people in Gia Lai province to overcome the consequences of storms and floods, on November 28, the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund - Lao Dong Newspaper (TLV Fund) supported people in Quy Nhon Bac ward and Tuy Phuoc Tay commune, each locality with 50 million VND. Previously, on the afternoon of November 27, the TLV Fund presented support to the people of Tuy Phuoc commune with 50 million VND.

These are localities that suffered heavy damage due to storm No. 13 and the recent historic floods.

Difficult circumstances after storms and floods have been shared

In Quy Nhon Bac ward, the TLV Fund supported 2 cases in especially difficult circumstances: Ms. Duong Thi Bo (80 years old) and Mr. Pham Ngoc Hieu (38 years old), both residing in Quarter 3, each with 10 million VND.

The fund also presented 15 gifts (2 million VND/gift) to 15 households severely affected by 2 floods.

Standing on a thick layer of mud that had not yet dried up after the flood, Mr. Huynh Kim Thanh (72 years old, residing in Quarter 3) was still shocked when recounting the scene where his whole family had to hold on to the attic when the floodwaters rose more than 2m, submerging all their belongings.

"The storm blew all the porch roofs away, as soon as the roof was re-roofed, the flood came, all the furniture in the house was flooded. The damage was heavy, luckily there were still people. Lunch is supported with rice, food, and drinks. Now I have some money to protect myself when I am sick and old, I am very happy", Mr. Thanh expressed.

About a few houses away, Mrs. Pham Thi Van (75 years old) had to go around the village to find her daughter with a mental illness and leave her for many days. Her treacherous face is printed with traces of the white nights searching for her children.

"My house and my daughter's house both collapsed after two storms and floods. Now I don't dare to go in, I have to stay. I am old, I do not make money, but have had to raise a sick child for many years. I am very happy to have the support and have money to buy medicine. When thinking about repairing a house, I don't dare, because it's too big for me," Ms. Van confided.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Hoa - Secretary of the Party Committee of Quy Nhon Bac Ward - said that storm No. 13 and the historic flood caused heavy damage to most people, with 15/16 neighborhoods inundated during the flood alone. To date, the ward has recorded 3 deaths, all of whom were elderly people and pre- illness patients.

"The flood peak is too high, sweeping away all the crops, livestock and property of the people. Since November 20, the ward has continuously received support from benefactors. Today, the TLV Fund continues to support truly difficult cases, helping people have more conditions to overcome natural disasters and soon stabilize their lives," said Ms. Hoa.

In Tuy Phuoc Tay commune, the Golden Heart Fund has supported 20 million VND for Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien (75 years old, Canh An 1 village) - a single household whose house was completely collapsed due to storms and floods, and no longer able to work. The fund also presented 15 gifts (2 million VND/gift) to 15 households severely affected by the double natural disaster.

For 4 years since the mud-walled thatched house collapsed, Mrs. Tran Thi Sau (61 years old, living in Thanh Huy 1 village) and her husband have had to temporarily live in a duck hut covered with corrugated iron, which was not theirs.

Mrs. Sau and her husband have 3 children, all of whom are married, but have not escaped poverty. There are no conditions for wanting to help.

"The family has 3 sao of rice fields, just enough to eat all day. 36 years of living in a temporary house. All my life I have only dreamed of building a decent house, and I probably can't do it even when I close my eyes," Ms. Sau burst into tears.

Mr. Pham Cong Doan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Tuy Phuoc Tay commune - said that after storm No. 13, the locality had not yet been able to overcome the damage when the historic flood came, sweeping away property, crops, livestock... Many houses had their roofs blown off by the storm and continued to be flooded.

After 2 natural disasters, sponsors in the province and benefactors everywhere have provided timely support, helping people cover expenses and soon restore their lives.

In addition to the special case supported with 20 million VND above, the commune has selected 15 households that were really disadvantaged and suffered heavy damage after storms and floods in 14 villages. The gifts given this time are practical and timely support, contributing to encouraging and sharing difficulties with households affected by natural disasters.

"On behalf of the locality, I would like to thank the Golden Heart Fund and Lao Dong Newspaper for always caring for and helping the people of the commune during times of trouble" Mr. Doan expressed.
