On October 10 (local time), heavy rains in many areas of Mexico killed at least 21 people and many others are missing.
Local authorities said that floods such as water splashes caused a series of landslides, collapsed houses, cut off power in many areas and caused rivers to rise and overflow the banks.
In Hidalgo state, civil defense authorities recorded 16 deaths, more than 1,000 homes and hundreds of schools were severely affected.
In the state of Puebla, Governor Alejandro Arment said three people died in landslides and five others were missing. Two other deaths were reported in Veracruz state.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said the government is working to support people, reopen roads and restore power. She posted on social network X a photo of rescue forces wading through deep floodwaters to transport relief goods to isolated areas.
Mexico's Defense Ministry said it has deployed more than 5,400 soldiers to monitor, evacuate and clear damaged areas.
Meanwhile, Hurricanes Raymond and Priscilla continue to bring heavy rains to Baja California and along the western Pacific coast of Mexico, making the situation worse.
