The latest storm/low pressure bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that on February 1, no low pressure areas were recorded in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). However, this agency is monitoring active convective cloud clusters outside PAR.
We forecast that in the next few days there will be a low pressure area formed inside PAR, with a tendency to move mainly west or northwest, approaching the Philippines archipelago," said weather forecaster Daniel Villamil of PAGASA.
According to initial forecasts, if it forms, this low pressure area may affect the easternmost areas of Visayas and Mindanao. However, PAGASA emphasizes that the possibility of developing into a tropical depression or storm is still only at a low to medium level and the forecast scenario may still change.
Some major weather forecast models such as ECMWF, GFS and ICON also show that the threat from a low pressure area or a weak storm still exists in Eastern Visayas and the Caraga area in the period from February 3-7.
According to the forecast scenario, in the afternoon of February 3, the center of the disturbance area may be located in the east of Baganga (Davao Oriental), then it is likely to move and affect some areas of Visayas and North Mindanao around February 6-7.
Along with the risk from the low pressure area, the northeast monsoon is also forecast to cause rain in many places, including the Bicol region, Romblon province, the Visayas region and some localities in Mindanao such as the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Camiguin and Misamis Oriental. Rainfalls caused by windbreaks are often prolonged, which can cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Weather experts noted that although bad weather is still far away and uncertain, people in risky areas should proactively follow the forecast bulletin, prepare response plans for heavy rain that may cause flash floods and landslides, especially in mountainous and riverside areas.
Meanwhile, in Vietnam, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that on February 1st, cold air affected the North Central region and some places in the Northwest region. In the North and North Central regions, there were light rain in some places, the temperature dropped from 2-4 degrees Celsius.
The Northern and North Central regions are cold, the Northern mountainous regions have places with deep cold. The lowest temperature in this cold air wave in the Northern region is commonly 12-15 degrees Celsius, mountainous areas 10-13 degrees Celsius, high mountainous areas have places below 8 degrees; the North Central region is commonly 14-17 degrees Celsius.
Hanoi area: No rain, cold weather. Lowest temperature commonly 13-15 degrees C.
Weather forecast for day and night February 2:
North: Lowest 12-15 degrees C, mountainous areas 10-13 degrees C, high mountainous areas in some places below 8 degrees C; average temperature 16-18 degrees C, mountainous areas in some places below 15 degrees C.
