Former South Korean President faces new arrest warrant

Việt Đức |

On July 6, South Korea's special prosecutors filed a request to arrest former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The move is believed to stem from Yoon Suk Yeol's sudden declaration of martial law in South Korea late last year.

The statement from the special lawyers of the prosecutors investigating the case on December 3, 2024 stated: "A request for arrest is related to allegations of abuse of power and obstruction of justice".

Mr. Yoon's martial law decree was lifted just about 6 hours after it was announced, as lawmakers - who had to climb the wall of the National Assembly building to get around the security force - voted against the decree.

Yoon was summoned on July 5 for questioning for several hours, as part of an investigation into the allegations, officials said.

There is currently no comment from Mr. Yoon Seok Yeol's lawyer.
