Storm No. 12 Fengshen is forecast to intensify maximum when in the middle of the East Sea. A new low pressure is also expected to form immediately after storm No. 12.

The latest storm and low pressure forecast until the end of October from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that after storm No. 12 Fengshen (Phong Than - named in the Philippines as Ramil) entered the East Sea this week until October 23, a new low pressure is forecast to appear in the East Sea from October 24 to October 30.

This low pressure is forecast to appear in the middle of the East Sea, with a wide area of influence and the unlikely chance of strengthening into a storm.

Currently, storm No. 12 Fengshen is active in the East Sea.

The latest storm news on the afternoon of October 19 from PAGASA said that the center of storm 12 is in the vicinity of Olongapo city, Zambales, Philippines. Typhoon Fengshen is moving west-northwest at a speed of 15 km/h. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 90 km/h.

Philippine weather forecasters said that Typhoon Fengshen will continue moving west-northwest or northwest as it passes through the Central Luzon mainland before entering the coastal waters of Zambales on the afternoon of October 19.

Typhoon Fengshen is expected to leave the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR) on the morning of October 20.

In the East Sea, there is a high possibility of storm No. 12 intensifying, reaching the level of a severe tropical storm, the highest level since the storm formed, when outside the PAR.

During its landfall in the Philippines 5 times, Typhoon Fengshen left 5 dead and 2 missing. In Quezon province, northern Philippines, five family members, including two children, were killed when trees fell on their homes.

As of the afternoon of October 19, more than 10 flights have been canceled by airlines as Typhoon Fengshen swept through Luzon, just south of Manila as it headed into the South China Sea.

Officials in southeastern Luzon said at least 47,000 people have been evacuated to temporary shelters since October 18. At least five dams on Luzon opened floodgates on October 19.

In the central Philippines, officials on Samar and Panay islands have reported severe flooding, forcing residents to evacuate. One person was injured in the town of Estancia on Panay Island after a house collapsed.

In Bukidnon province on Mindanao, two people are missing after a three-wheeled vehicle slid off the highway following a major landslide caused by heavy rain. The expressway connecting Bukidnon with the Davao vicinity is now closed.

On average, the Philippines welcomes about 20 typhoons per year. Typhoon No. 12 Fengshen appeared in the context of the Philippines starting to recover after a series of major earthquakes that killed at least 87 people in the past 3 weeks.
