The low pressure area outside the forecast area of the Philippines is highly likely to become a tropical depression.

The latest storm and low pressure news on the morning of May 26 from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the low pressure outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has "high probability" of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The report stated that this low pressure was recorded most recently 1.570km northeast of Mindanao.

Weather expert Veronica Torres of PAGASA said that this low pressure area is likely to enter the Philippine forecast area in the next few days.

The low pressure trough or extension of the low pressure is affecting eastern Mindanao and causing rain in some areas east of Mindanao," Ms. Torres said. Therefore, it is expected to be cloudy with scattered rain and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines are cloudy to scattered showers due to localized thunderstorms.

In addition, southwest winds are also causing rain in the western areas of Mindanao.

Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Mindanao Islamic, Soccksargen, Lanao del Norte, and in Misamis Occidental and Palawan are forecast to be cloudy with rain and thunderstorms due to the aforementioned southwest wind.

Philippine weather forecasters noted that easterly winds are also affecting Eastern Visayas, Bicol and Quezon regions, causing cloudy skies with scattered showers.
