The Philippines may experience a mild La Nina phenomenon starting in October 2025, signaling higher than normal rainfall in some areas of the Davao region, according to the latest weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA expert Alan Ray Ribo pointed out: However, La Nina may not last long as it will peak in November and December and then gradually decrease until the first quarter of 2026.
Mr. Ribo emphasized that La Nina is expected to appear due to the drop in temperatures in the Pacific Ocean.
With the return of La Nina and the easterly wind system, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental provinces are expected to see higher-than-normal rainfall in October, leading to the risk of flash floods, inundation and landslides due to rain.
The Philippine weather agency also noted that there will still be local thunderstorms, which are expected to occur mainly in the late afternoon to late evening.
