Iran warns of retaliation against Ukraine after Caspian Sea attack

Iran warned it would respond after accusing Ukraine of being behind the attack on a commercial ship of this country in the Caspian Sea.

On July 26 (local time), Chairman of the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament Ebrahim Azizi warned Tehran would respond after accusing Ukraine of attacking a commercial ship of this country in the Caspian Sea.

According to TASS news agency, Mr. Azizi made the above statement after Iran accused Ukraine of being behind the attack that killed an Iranian sailor.

On social network X, Mr. Azizi emphasized that any attack on Iran would have a price to pay.

Any attack on Iran will have a price to pay and that is still true to this day. The US and Israel both understand this. Ukraine may soon realize that Iran will not let actions against it take place without a response. The list of wrongly calculated parties is still getting longer," he wrote.

Previously, on July 25, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that a commercial ship of this country was attacked in the Caspian Sea, killing a sailor. Tehran accused Ukrainian forces of being the perpetrators of the attack.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the attack was carried out under Israel's direction to draw European countries into deeper involvement in the Middle East conflict.

These allegations have not yet been confirmed or officially responded to by the Ukrainian side.

Mr. Azizi's statement was made in the context of escalating tensions related to the incident. The fact that a senior official of the Iranian Parliament publicly warned of the possibility of retaliation shows that Tehran is showing a tough stance against what it considers actions aimed at Iranian interests and citizens.

The incident also increased tensions in the context that the Middle East and surrounding areas are witnessing many complex security developments, while the parties continue to make mutual accusations about the role of external forces in conflicts.
