The tourist bus carrying 52 passengers was en route from Niagara waterfall back to New York City when it overturned and crashed into a ditch on the New York State Thruway Expressway on August 22, local time.
The state police said that the bus was carrying passengers aged 1 to 74. The accident occurred at around 12:20 on Interstate 90 east of Pembroke Town, east of Buffalo, New York, and about 64 km east of Niagara Waterfall.
Officials believe that most of the passengers were not wearing seat belts, as many were also thrown off the bus at the time of the accident. The car was severely damaged in the accident.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated, but the cause due to technical errors as well as impaired driving ability or being drunk has been ruled out.
The bus was traveling at maximum speed and did not crash into any other vehicle.
Helicopters, ambulances and law enforcement were present at the scene of the accident. The bus was seen lying on its side with many people gathered around.
The interpreters assisted the police at the scene because most of the passengers were Indian, Chinese or Philippine.
