The British news agency said the US would provide Ukraine with intelligence that could serve long-range missile attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, including refineries, pipelines and power stations.
This is the first time Washington has supported Kiev at this level, with the goal of reducing oil and gas revenue - which is a financial pillar for Moscow to continue its military campaign.
US officials said the decision was made shortly before US President Donald Trump wrote on social media that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, could reclaim its entire territory. Mr. Trump also called on European countries to stop buying Russian oil in exchange for Washington to impose stronger sanctions.
In addition to sharing intelligence, the US is reviewing Ukraine's request for a Tomahawk cruise missile with a range of 2,500km, enough to reach Moscow and most of Russia's European territory. Ukraine is also developing Flamingo long-range missiles, which are currently in the initial production stage.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that countries like Turkey have the right to decide for themselves in trade cooperation with Russia. The G7 also said on the same day that it would increase pressure on those who continue to buy Russian oil or support the avoidance of sanctions.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been on the rise since February 2022, when Moscow launched a special military operation.
