A serious shooting occurred inside a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, where the headquarters of the National Football League (NFL) and many large financial companies, including the Blackstone speculative fund, is located.
According to New York officials, the shooting killed at least five people before the suspect was "dilapidated".
A source from law enforcement said an officer from the New York Police Department was killed in the incident. New York Mayor Eric Adams confirmed on social media X that "many people were injured".
New York media quoted police sources as saying the suspect was wearing a bulletproof shirt and carrying an AR rifle when he started filming inside a building at 345 Avenue Park.
The number of casualties reported varies across sources. A source said that 1 police officer and 3 civilians were killed. Meanwhile, another source said the gunman killed a police officer and injured six others before committing suicide.

The suspect is believed to have committed suicide and was initially identified as a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas. Images from the police show the person carrying a gun when entering the building.
