At the age of 94, the Chinese couple who were once in a relationship got married after more than 60 years of losing contact.

The Shanghai Morning Post reported that the couple reunited after a chance meeting at a dinner party when the old man accidentally met his future wife's younger brother and reconnected with his grandmother in 2019.

Although they have not been in contact for more than six decades, the couple still decided to spend the remaining years together and got married in 2020 when they were both 94 years old. This year, at the age of 96, the couple live together in a nursing home in Shanghai.

Born just a few hours apart in 1926, the couple were friends who grew up together when their father ran a photography studio in Shandong, eastern China, before the family moved to Shanghai when the Second China-Japanese War broke out in 1937.

They gradually lost contact with each other after the woman's family moved to another province a few years later.

It was not until 2019, when the old man accidentally met her younger brother at an evening party in Shanghai, that they met again.

The old man asked the old man's address from his younger brother and then went to visit his old friend. However, at first she did not recognize him.

Both of us are happy to meet each other. We were both widows, widows and she wanted to find a partner. So I told her that she could have me. It was fate for us to meet again. Unexpected fate, he added.

As for herself, the old lady said: "It is not like the love of young people. We come together to care for and look after each other.

The couple received countless wishes after their story was made public - Shanghai Morning Post reported this week.

This is a good ending to a life. They are so lucky, a person commented on Weibo.Vuong Hai is one of the first cities in China with a large population of elderly people. According to government data, by the end of 2021, more than a third of those registering to reside in Shanghai were aged 60 and over. Shanghai has 15 million registered residents out of a total of about 25 million people last year.

In 2019, the total number of elderly people living alone in Shanghai was 317,400.
