On the morning of July 5th, at Tien Son Sports Palace, the Organizing Committee of the 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival, 2026, officially opened the Vovinam tournament.
Speaking at the opening of the tournament, Mr. Tran Cong Tu - Director of Da Nang City Sports Center emphasized: "This Vovinam tournament is the 14th competition within the framework of the congress, gathering 57 martial artists from 10 communes and wards to compete in 9 combat weight classes and 5 boxing events.
Although the scale of the competition is not too large, the tournament is of particular importance to create opportunities for units to rub shoulders, learn and improve their professional qualifications.
This is also the basis for the city's sports sector to discover and select outstanding faces to supplement the Vovinam team to prepare for upcoming regional and national tournaments.
Athletes will enter the competition in two events: boxing and sparring. In the boxing performance event, the organizers put into competition 5 events including men's singles empty hand (Ngu Mon Quyen), men's singles weapons (Tu Tuong Con Phap), men's team (Thap Tu Quyen), women's singles practice (Long Ho Quyen) and women's singles weapons practice (Tinh Hoa Luong Nghi Kiem Phap).
For the sparring event, the athletes compete for medals in 9 weight classes. In which, male athletes compete in weight classes over 51kg, over 54kg, over 57kg, over 60kg and over 64kg; female athletes compete in weight classes over 45kg, over 48kg, over 54kg and over 57kg.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the first matches in the boxing and sparring events took place dramatically, attracting the cheers of a large number of fans.
According to the plan, the Vovinam tournament of the 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival will take place continuously and is expected to close at 10:00 tomorrow (July 6).
The organizing committee will award gold, silver, and bronze medals along with certificates and bonuses to individuals who won first, second, and third prizes in each competition category, and award flags and team prizes to units with the most outstanding achievements at this year's tournament.
