Outstanding young faces
The 2025 National Volleyball Championship will kick off phase 1 from March 22 to March 31 at Dong Anh Stadium, Hanoi. This year's tournament is expected to be more competitive when the number of participating teams decreased to 8 teams in both men's and women's events (last season, there were 9 teams).
The appearance of a series of talented young faces also brought a lot of expectations to fans.
Main striker Dang Thi Hong has joined the Vietinbank women's team with a loan deal from Thai Nguyen club. This is one of the promising young players of Vietnamese women's volleyball at present. Her good high jumping ability and strong hitting power helped Dang Thi Hong make her mark in the 2024 season from the club level to the Vietnam U20 women's youth team.
With the Information Corps, coach Pham Van Long and the team's leadership have brought striker Pham Quynh Huong to the first-line squad to prepare for the first phase of the national championship. Born in 2008, with a height of 1m87, Quynh Huong is constantly an outstanding young player in the tournaments she participates in. If they reach their best form, the main striker from Quang Ninh will have the opportunity to play with her seniors in the upcoming tournament.
In addition, two players Bui Thi Anh Thao and Vi Thi Yen Nhi of the Hanoi team were also loaned to LPB Ninh Binh this season. Anh Thao plays as a main striker, while Yen Nhi plays as a setter. Both of them have played with the Vietnam U20 Youth Women's Volleyball Team, so they are highly appreciated for their expertise and development potential in the future.
The core of the U21 World Cup
2025 is the first time Vietnamese youth women's volleyball has participated in the world playground. Last year, coach Nguyen Trong Linh led the Vietnam U20 Women's Team to win 5th place in the Asian Championship, thereby getting a ticket to the U21 Women's World Championship (taking place in August 2025). Therefore, finding personnel and preparing for the above arena is very important.
Talking to Lao Dong, coach Nguyen Trong Linh said that some U20 athletes have reached remarkable maturity and are in the main squad of some strong teams competing in the 2025 National Championship. They will be the pillar for the youth team participating in this year's U21 Women's World Cup.
Through the 2024 U20 Asian Championship, it is easy to see that the competition experience of young Vietnamese athletes is still very limited. This year, some faces continue to compete in the national championship. This is a playground that focuses on the best domestic players as well as quality foreign players. This will help our young players improve a lot. The youth team coaching staff will closely monitor the performance of athletes from the national championship, A-class tournament and youth tournaments, and propose to focus on the most outstanding faces to represent Vietnam in the U21 Women's World Championship. I hope that outstanding positions such as: Dang Thi Hong, Nhu Anh, Phuong Quynh, Van Ha, Quynh Huong, Anh Thao... will have a breakthrough and mature much more this year" - Mr. Nguyen Trong Linh shared.
It is expected that the Vietnam U21 Women's Volleyball Team will gather after the first phase of the national championship and the group stage of the national A-class tournament. Above all, each player needs to make every effort in the club's jersey. This is the basis for coaches to evaluate and propose the most suitable names to focus on the national team, carrying out international tasks this year.
