For about 2 months now, the Hao Quang Sports and Entertainment Complex in Van Yen Ward, Ha Tinh City has "cut" 2 artificial soccer fields to make pickleball courts.
Every afternoon, the pickleball court service here attracts a lot of participants, cars are parked around this Sports and Entertainment Complex.
Not only have sports complexes "smartly" converted part of their soccer and volleyball fields into pickleball courts, but many agencies, departments, and sectors in Ha Tinh have also converted their volleyball and tennis courts into pickleball courts.
On November 18, Mr. Vo Hong Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh - shared that currently, pickleball is developing explosively, becoming a hot sport in Ha Tinh.
“The reason why pickleball has exploded is because it is quite easy to play, suitable for many ages and genders. 10-year-old teenagers or 60 to 70-year-old men and women can still play because the racket is light, the court area is quite narrow, there is little movement so it saves energy. It is suitable for light physical exercise and sports, called popular, easy to play,” Mr. Son shared.
Mr. Son added that currently, basically all the previous tennis courts in Ha Tinh have been converted to pickleball courts.
“At the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh and the Ha Tinh Sports Training Center, they also want to convert it into a pickleball court, but I disagree because we are the unit in charge of sports in the province, so we need to keep that court to organize tennis tournaments,” said Mr. Son.
Mr. Son also commented that, with a sport that has such an unusual “explosive” development, whether it will survive for a long time or not is an issue that cannot be predicted. Maybe it will no longer have the appeal for long.
