Tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh is almost certain not chosen as the seed for the women's singles event to compete in the 33rd SEA Games.

Nguyen Thuy Linh is currently ranked 22nd in the world women's singles. However, based on the registration of badminton teams at the 33rd SEA Games, Thuy Linh is not a tennis player in the group of 4 players holding the highest position who will compete in the women's singles event.

The players who will be awarded the seeds for the 33rd SEA Games women's badminton singles are expected to be Pornpawee Chochuwong (Thailand, 6th in the world), Putri Kusuma Wardani (Indonesia, 7th in the world), Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand, 8th in the world), Jeo Jia Min (Singapore, 18th in the world).

According to practice, the individual event of badminton (including men's and women's) of the SEA Games will select 4 players as seeds to draw for 4 branches. Seed players have the advantage of not having to face high-ranked athletes right from the first matches.

At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, Nguyen Thuy Linh was the seed of the women's singles event. However, the Vietnamese badminton player only reached the quarterfinals at this Congress. Thuy Linh started participating in the SEA Games in 2015.

After competing in the SEA Games, this tennis player has never won an individual medal. Her goal at the 33rd SEA Games is to strive to be in the group of 4 best tennis players.

The Vietnamese badminton team will participate in the 33rd SEA Games with 8 athletes including Nguyen Thuy Linh, Bui Bich Phuong, Pham Thi Dieu Ly, Pham Thi Khanh, Tran Thi Phuong Thuy, Vu Thi Trang and Le Duc Phat, Nguyen Hai Dang.

Up to now, Nguyen Thuy Linh's only SEA Games medal is the women's team medal at the 31st SEA Games held in 2022.

The 33rd SEA Games badminton tournament will have participating teams including Thailand (host), Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos.
