Karate athlete Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly won in the final of the women's 68kg weight class on the last day of competition, June 21, held in Indonesia.
The tournament organizers have competed in the final matches of the 2026 Asian Championship, taking place on the arena in Indonesia.
Dieu Ly is the only martial artist of the Vietnamese karate team to reach a final of this year's tournament. In the final, she defeated her opponent Kama Tsubasa (Japan) with a score of 5-1.
Martial artist Dieu Ly's achievement has helped the Vietnamese karate team complete the set target of achieving at least 1 gold medal at the 2026 Asian Championships.
At the end of the competition, the Vietnamese karate athlete achieved a total of 1 gold medal and 5 silver medals to rank 7th.
A big surprise at this year's tournament is that Vietnamese athletes did not win gold medals in the women's team kumite and women's team kata events.
The Vietnamese martial artist only won a bronze medal in the women's team kumite and did not win a medal in the women's team kata event. Last year, we won gold medals in the above 2 events at the 2025 Asian Championships.
In the end of the tournament, the Japanese karate team won the No. 1 position with 5 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 5 bronze medals. The Iranian teams (3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 5 bronze medals) and Kazakhstan teams (2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals) held the second and third places.
This year, the Vietnamese karate team sends 20 martial artists to compete in the 2026 Asian Championship.
