Assessment and forecast
According to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), Vietnam's pepper exports to the Chinese market in the first quarter increased by 87.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching 2,034 tons. However, compared to the same period in 2023, the import volume is still 92.2%.
China has risen to 4th place in Vietnam's largest pepper export market with its market share increasing to 4.3% from 1.9% in the same period.
Vietnam's pepper exports to China in the first quarter of this year increased sharply compared to the same period in 2024. This shows that pepper reserves in China have dropped.
However, pepper exports to China are still limited at the present time due to China Customs' policy of tightening exports across the border. Meanwhile, in the case of sea pepper exports, the cost will increase, and Chinese importers are not ready.
