Assessment and forecast
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), prolonged exposure to sunlight in the first months of 2025 has significantly affected pepper production in the Central Highlands and Southeast provinces.
Some rains appeared in some areas to help relieve drought in pepper gardens, however, for areas that have not been harvested, this is a good condition for pepper plants. For harvested gardens, this rain affects the differentiation of flower buds, leading to a decrease in pepper crop yield next year.
Vietnam's pepper harvest is in its peak and is expected to be harvested until the end of April 2025. Unlike previous years, when pepper was harvested, abundant supply led to a decrease in prices.
However, domestic pepper prices have always been above and below 150,000 VND/kg since the beginning of the year. Due to the low sales of farmers, some farmers harvesting both durian and coffee at good prices, there is no financial pressure to sell.
