6 new districts and cities expected to be established in Hanoi

According to the Hanoi Capital Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Hanoi plans to establish 6 districts and cities.

The Prime Minister has just issued Decision No. 1569/QD-TTg approving the Hanoi Capital Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

Regarding the plan to develop the Hanoi urban system in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, in addition to the 12 existing districts, it is expected that by 2030, 6 more districts/cities will be established, including districts planned to be established such as Gia Lam, Hoai Duc, Thanh Tri, Dong Anh and districts/cities and urban areas planned to be established such as Dan Phuong and Me Linh.

The cities/towns planned to be established include: Soc Son urban area, Hoa Lac urban area, Xuan Mai urban area, Son Tay urban area, Phu Xuyen urban area.

The planned urban areas and towns include: Chuc Son urban area, Quoc Oai urban area, Phuc Tho urban area, Tay Dang town, Tan Vien Son urban area, Lien Quan town, Thuong Tin town, Kim Bai town, Van Dinh town.

Also according to the planning, the urban system of Hanoi Capital is organized according to the urban cluster model including the central urban area, radial urban axes, and cities within the capital.

Include:

Historical inner city areas: Preserve, restore, and embellish old quarters and old streets with architectural value to create spaces for cultural development, tourism, and night-time economy.

Existing inner-city areas outside the conservation area: Renovate and reconstruct old apartment buildings and unsafe housing areas into civilized and modern urban areas through the transport-oriented urban development model (TOD), land adjustment model...

Expanded central urban area: Forming new urban areas according to the TOD model combined with developing 15-minute urban models; developing ecological urban areas, focusing on public spaces, green parks, water surfaces, and limiting low-rise housing models.

Northern city (Me Linh, Soc Son, Dong Anh area): is a service city, high-tech industry, internationally connected. Has a unique and outstanding policy mechanism to develop green, modern urban models, attract large corporations to set up headquarters, attract people with high spending ability to live.

Western city (Hoa Lac, Xuan Mai area): is a science - technology urban area, innovation and training of high-quality human resources of the country associated with Hoa Lac High-Tech Park.

This will be a modern, ecological urban development area with synchronous, high-quality public services, creating an attractive environment, attracting leading experts and scientists to live and work.

Hanoi planning also orients the expansion of urban development in the area north of the Red River to create a balanced and harmonious urban space on both sides of the river, developing the Red River axis into a central landscape axis, a cultural space combining commerce, services, tourism and resorts.

At the same time, form a city model in the Capital to create growth poles, new development drivers, promote widespread and harmonious development between urban and rural areas, and create specific institutions to exploit the unique potentials and advantages of each area.
