On the occasion of attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Korea from October 30 to November 1, on October 31, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong had a short meeting with Prime Ministers of Japan and New Zealand; Heads of Delegations of Papua New Guinea, Peru and Head of Hong Kong Special Administrative Area, Head of Hong Kong Delegation, China.
At the meetings, heads of delegations from countries congratulated Vietnam on being trusted as the third host of APEC in 2027, affirming that they will actively support and closely coordinate with host Vietnam to successfully organize APEC 2027.
At the meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, President Luong Cuong sent congratulations from senior Vietnamese leaders to Ms. Takaichi Sanae who was elected as Japanese Prime Minister. The President believes that with his rich experience, Prime Minister Sanae will lead Japan to many new achievements. Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae affirmed that Japan will continue to attach importance to and wish to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam more and more effectively, going into depth and promised to arrange a visit to Vietnam in the coming time.
During a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the President highly appreciated Malaysia's efforts in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025, including a series of successful ASEAN 47 high-level events. Prime Minister Ibrahim affirmed that Malaysia considers Vietnam as one of the top important partners, continuing to give high priority to developing relations with Vietnam.
Speaking with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, President Luong Cuong expressed his pleasure at seeing the development of bilateral relations increasingly developing positively in various fields, especially the upgrading of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the recent visit of the New Zealand Prime Minister. The New Zealand Prime Minister expressed his desire to closely coordinate with Vietnam in 2026 when Vietnam becomes Chairman of the Council of Ministers of CPTPP to promote the linkage between CPTPP and partners.
At the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Papua New Guinea delegation John Rosso, President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the friendly and cooperative relationship with Papua New Guinea and is ready to act as a bridge between ASEAN and the South Pacific archipelagos and the Pacific Island Forum (PIF). The Deputy Prime Minister Papua New Guinea expressed his desire to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the field of trade and investment, and through Vietnam to promote cooperation with ASEAN.
Speaking with the Head of the Peruvian delegation, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Peru. The head of the Peruvian delegation expressed his delight at the good development of the relationship between the two countries, especially after the President's visit to Peru in 2024. Appreciating the Bitel investment project of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (Viettel), Minister Teresa hoped that Vietnamese enterprises would increase investment in Peru and pledged to continue to facilitate Bitel's increasingly effective operations in Peru.
At the meeting with Head of the Hong Kong and China delegations Li Zhao, President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides effectively implement the commitments and agreements reached in the results of the official visit to Vietnam by Head of the Li Zhaoxi Special Zone (July 2024) and suggested sending the delegation to Vietnam to discuss cooperation on the development of financial centers.
