General Secretary To Lam's visit is historic as Vietnam has simultaneously upgraded relations with the two countries in ASEAN.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son answered an interview about the State visit to Indonesia, the official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat, the official visit to Singapore of General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam from September 9-13.

Regarding the outstanding results of the Indonesian State visit, the official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat and the official visit to Singapore by General Secretary To Lam, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister said: "The visit was a great success, achieving all set goals at a high level. Both countries and the ASEAN Secretariat highly value the visit, giving the General Secretary, his wife and the delegation the highest spiritual welcome with a rich and practical working program. In addition, the members of the delegation also had very effective meetings and work with partners in both countries".

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister added that this is the first visit of a General Secretary to Indonesia in nearly 8 years (since August 2017), to Singapore in nearly 13 years (since September 2012) and the first official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat.

"The visit is of historical significance as Vietnam has simultaneously upgraded relations with the two countries in ASEAN, thereby deepening Vietnam's cooperative relations with the two countries, contributing more effectively to the ASEAN common house" - said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister.

To date, Vietnam is the only country in ASEAN where Indonesia and Singapore have established a comprehensive strategic partnership.

"The historical significance of the visit also lies in the fact that for the first time, a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam visited the ASEAN Secretariat, highlighting ASEAN's strategic importance to Vietnam, while affirming Vietnam's consistent policy of making more proactive and responsible contributions to the common cause of ASEAN" - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son said.

"The visit opens up opportunities for Vietnam to exchange and share development experiences from both countries. Indonesia, with a development strategy based on a large domestic market, and Singapore, with an open economic model, export-oriented and high-tech, as the regional innovation hub, can support Vietnam in the era of growth.

The visit also contributes to strengthening relations between our Party and ruling parties and chinh parties in Indonesia and Singapore, creating an important political foundation for relations between Vietnam and the two countries" - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son shared.

He added that the Indonesian and Singaporean press are very interested in the visit, especially the two countries upgrading their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, affirming that this is a significant step forward in the relationship between Vietnam and the two countries.
