The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is a milestone of great significance, both in terms of domestic political development and the future direction of the country in the regional and global context.
The importance of the Congress first of all lies in the fact that it not only affirms the current guidelines, but also chooses development orientations that affect Vietnam throughout the next decade.
That is the assessment of Mr. Milos Kosy - Chairman of the Czech-Vietnamese Friendship Association - in an exchange in the Czech Republic before the particularly important political event of Vietnam, taking place from January 19-25, in Hanoi Capital.
According to Mr. Milos Kosy, the Congress is of strategic significance for the next development phase of Vietnam; and at the same time plays an important role in personnel work and ensuring the continuity of the operating apparatus, consolidating the ideological foundation and legitimacy of the Party.
In addition, the Congress also has foreign and regional significance, thereby sending a clear signal about the role that Vietnam desires to play in Southeast Asia in the long term.
Regarding the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam as proven over time, Mr. Milos Kosy said that the past 40 years, since the Doi Moi policy was initiated in 1986, can be considered a period of great historical significance for the development and stability of the Vietnamese State.
According to him, the biggest contribution of the Communist Party of Vietnam in this period is the early identification of the limitations of the centralized planned economy model, thereby making practical reform decisions and transitioning to a socialist-oriented market economy.
That transformation process is clearly shown through opening up to foreign trade and investment, significantly reducing widespread poverty, maintaining rapid GDP growth for decades, promoting industrialization and significantly improving the living standards of the majority of people.
According to Mr. Milos Kosy, these results show the ideological flexibility of the Communist Party of Vietnam in adjusting its guidelines to suit development practices.
Another important contribution of the Party is ensuring political stability and continuity in national governance. This factor creates conditions for long-term strategic planning in the fields of infrastructure, education, and industrialization, while helping Vietnam avoid chaos or collapse as has occurred in some post-socialist countries. The stability and predictability of the system also contribute to strengthening the confidence of foreign investors in the investment environment in Vietnam.
Mr. Milos Kosy said that protecting national sovereignty and implementing foreign policy is also an important area of activity of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In the complex international context, the Party has skillfully balanced relations with major powers, both maintaining relations with China and developing strategic partnerships with the US, the European Union (EU), Japan and Russia, while proactively expanding political and diplomatic influence within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in parallel with protecting national sovereignty.
This approach contributes to consolidating the image of the Communist Party of Vietnam as a steadfast force protecting national interests, a factor of particular importance in the post-colonial context of Vietnam.
Regarding bilateral relations, Mr. Milos Kosy emphasized that Vietnam and the Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia) established diplomatic relations from 1950. During the Vietnamese resistance wars for national salvation, this relationship was strengthened on the foundation of solidarity and continued to develop in many fields such as politics, education and culture.
In the past, Czechoslovakia has supported Vietnam by providing materials, equipment and creating conditions for Vietnamese students to study abroad, thereby contributing to the formation of a large Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, which is currently one of the largest foreign communities in this country.
Notably, in January 2025, Vietnam - Czech Republic relations were officially upgraded to Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the official visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the Czech Republic.
This is the first time Vietnam has established a strategic partnership with a country in Central and Eastern Europe, built on the principles of mutual respect, respect for sovereignty and cooperation. Bilateral relations currently focus on political dialogue, economic cooperation, defense, security and scientific cooperation.
Bilateral trade turnover has grown strongly, reaching a record level of more than 4 billion USD in 2024 and 2025, making the Czech Republic a leading partner of Vietnam in Central and Eastern Europe, while Vietnam is an important partner of the Czech Republic in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
On behalf of the Czech-Vietnamese Friendship Association, the oldest and largest friendship organization for Vietnam in the Czech Republic, and as an individual, Mr. Milos Kosy sincerely sent his wishes for the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
He emphasized that this is a particularly important event in Vietnam's political and social life, marking a new milestone in the continuous effort to consolidate stability, promote economic development, strengthen social cohesion and enhance Vietnam's position in the international arena.
He affirmed that the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam marks an important milestone in the country's continuous efforts to consolidate stability, promote economic development, strengthen social cohesion and enhance its position in the international arena.
The strategic decisions and goals set out will reflect the wise and responsible leadership of the Party, always committed to the prosperity of Vietnam and the happiness and welfare of the people.
The Czech-Vietnamese Friendship Association always cherishes the traditional friendship between the people of the two countries, which was formed and developed on the basis of the long history of solidarity, mutual understanding and cooperation.
Mr. Milos Kosy expressed his belief that, under the leadership of the Party, Vietnam will continue to develop, contributing to deepening Czech-Vietnamese relations, and at the same time firmly consolidating the strategic partnership between the two countries.
